About Us

David grew up in a family of artists.

His mother was a noted artist whose work in acrylic and watercolors was well in the Rochester New York area. His father, a master carpenter, was also a very accomplished, award-winning photographer.  David learned both mediums and during his lifetime has added jewelry making to the growing list of media he has learned successfully.

He has worked with wood for over 30 years. At a very young age he began working with his father building custom furniture & built-in custom cabinetry.

After 16 years his work was noticed by a South Florida yacht builder and he began designing & building custom interiors on boats ranging from $200,000 to $3,000,000.

Eight years ago, the hills and lakes of home beckoned and he & partner Diane Dailey moved to a country back road in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York to begin a woodworking business.

A small workshop built from recycled cedar became the home of Country Lane Woodworking, and in late 2003 Country Lane became Bluff Point Designs. Making furniture and decorative home accessories, the principles that guide the work are simple.

- Use the years of experience to put excellence into the details of          each piece.

- Creativity without limits.

- Seek inspiration in all things.

- Simplicity highlights the beauty of nature’s designs.

- Make each piece to remain in family’s homes for generations.

A favorite way to sell our products is to exhibit at fine arts & crafts shows that support fundraising.  Dave’s work has been accepted by numerous juries, including the Chatham, MA Art Center’s long running event; Mystic, CT’s Outdoor Art Festival; Clothesline (Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester, NY); Artrider Productions; and others. The number of shows is limited each season because the handcrafted quality takes considerable time. Only decorative products are exhibited at these shows.

Custom orders from show and internet customers offer the chance to experiment with technique and innovation, in addition to keeping us very busy. Custom furniture projects make up the balances of Bluff Point Designs annual work schedule.
